The Petach Tikva Magistrates Court extended the remand of Chaim Perlman by another seven days on Thursday on suspicion of killing Arabs in 1998. The Honenu legal-aid organization, which is representing Perlman, said he told the court about the routine of interrogations by the Shabak Israel Security Agency, which, according to tapes released after he was arrested, tried to incite him to carry out other crimes against Arabs.
According to his testimony, Perlman is taken at 10:00 a.m. to an interrogation room where he is handcuffed to a chair for 18 hours while interrogators sit across from him, make fun of him, read his personal diaries out loud and swear at him. At 4:00 a.m. he is returned to his cell, to be awakened at 6:00 for prayers and breakfast, and the process is repeated. Perlman told the court he has not been interrogated in the last three days. His attorney said recently that he hoped the court would release Perlman to get him away from this treatment.
