Rabies Scare in Upper Galilee

A number of people were bitten Thursday in the area of Kibbutz Kfar Blum, near the River Jordan in the Upper Galilee by a medium sized brown and white dog believed to have rabies. The health office asks than anbody who might have been in contact with the animal or had animals that might have been in contact and have wounds to contact their local health office or the health office in Tzfat (04 699 4218 or 04 699 4219). After office hours, they should contact their local emergency room.

Health officials want people visiting the area to be especially careful. If bitten, people should wash their wounds with soap and running water, and apply disinfectant. They should also contact health personnel regarding the need for rabies treatments. Dog owners are being asked to check with their veterinarian regarding their immunizations.
