High Court judges discussed a petition by MK Michael Ben-Ari, and rightwing activists Itamar Ben-Gvir and Baruch Marzel, asking to hold a protest outside the home of Sheikh Ra'ed Salah in Umm El-Fahm. Ben-Gvir said that the petitioners would agree to a compromise that would enable police to more easily keep the peace, but they were not prepared to hold the rally at a great distance from Salah's house.
“Umm El-Fahm cannot be protected from protests,” he told the court. “Umm El-Fahm is an Israeli city,” subject to the same laws as all other Israeli cities, he said, adding that on Thursday, during the “pride parade,” people “will walk down the streets of Jerusalem in clothes I wouldn't even wear to the beach, but we allow them to, as the court has ordered.”
