The Defence Committee of the British Parliament announced on Wednesday its decision to conduct two investigations regarding the war in Afghanistan, following the leak of tens of thousands of classified documents on US fighting in Afghanistan, which include evidence of war crimes allegedly committed by US troops.

According to the Defence Committee, the first investigation will focus on the justification for the continuing fighting in Afghanistan, on attacking innocent civilians, and on a timetable for withdrawal. The second investigation will focus on the possibility of achieving a political settlement in the country.
