Rabbi Yitzhak Shapira, who was arrested for writing the book Torat Hamelech, has written an open letter to rabbis whose students are fighting in the IDF, and said that the investigation against him is a direct continuation of the persecution of soldiers and officers who fought against the enemies of Israel without regard for what he called the "twisted morality" of the IDF.
"There is no way that people will risk their lives in war against the enemies of Israel and then are forced to stand on trial for their actions - and we remain silent," he wrote.
