An Iranian cleric has accused the United States of paying opposition leaders $1 billion to bring down the regime in Tehran during the riots that followed the disputed presidential elections last year.

Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, head of the Council of Guardians of the Constitution, revealed he has obtained documents "proving that the Americans paid the money through Saudi agents."
