According to an Interior Ministry study, the number of legal weapons in the hands of the public has fallen significantly in the past decade. According to the study, by the Ministry's Population and Immigration division, there were 274,067 licensed weapons held by Israeli citizens in 2001, while in 2010, there were only 178,419.
