The American-backed Palestinian Authority says it will not give in to pressure for direct talks unless Israel stops all Jewish construction in Judea and Samaria, Chief PA negotiator Saeb Erekat was quoted as saying Tuesday.

The PA news agency Ma'an reported that Erekat said the United States is aware of and supportive of this position and that US Middle East Envoy George Mitchell is due to return to the region on Saturday.
