On the eve of Jonathan Pollard's 9,000th day behind bars in the United States for passing classified information from to Israel, his wife Esther told Arutz Sheva's Hebrew news journal on Sunday that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu "is burying Jonathan alive." She stressed that it was adding insult to injury that former U.S. President Bill Clinton asked to mediate the release of abducted Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit because he deceived Netanyahu at the Wye summit of 1998 by promising Pollard's release in exchange for 700 terrorists.
Esther Pollard said the recent release of Russian spies shows from the U.S. that it's easy to do when they "want to preserve relations with an ally." She recalled the words of the late Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu, who said freeing Jonathan was the key to releasing other Israeli captives and said that since her husband's capture, "Israel has not succeeded in bringing back soldiers alive, only bodies."
