A report on Israel Radio Tuesday said that the United States had offered Israel a deal, whereby Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu would extend the building freeze in Judea and Samaria, and in exchange would force Palestinian Authority officials to engage in direct talks with Israel. The direct talks would be held with no preconditions. Israeli officials said they expected widespread Knesset and ministerial opposition to the deal, if it is indeed to be offered. Netanuyahu is set to meet U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington next week.
