British Petroleum on Tuesday suspended siphoning oil out of the leak in the Gulf of Mexico because of a fire that broke out one of the ships collecting the oil. The fire on the derrick of the drill ship was caused by a lightning strike, officials said, and was put out without incident. BP said that no one was injured in the fire. BP said collection of the oil by the ship, one of a flotilla gathering up as much oil from the well spewing as much as 40,000 barrels a day, would resume within hours.
