Bible scholar Moshe Greenberg died on Shabbat at his home in Jerusalem at the age of 81.
The Philadelphia native, who moved to Israel in 1970, was the first recipient of the Israel Prize for biblical studies, sharing the award with Moshe Weinfeld in 1994.
