President Shimon Peres asked Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Sunday to relay a message to Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad that "Israel is not interested in heating up the border and war is the last thing we want."
Speaking on the opening day of a visit to Russia, Peres said, "We extend our hand in peace to Syria, but peace cannot exist without basic conditions. It's impossible to extend a hand in peace and continue to support the breeding grounds of terror. Israel has no other interpretation for the transfer of weapons from Syria to Hizbullah. The transfer of precision long-range missiles to that organization is a provocation for war."
