'Rona Ramon' Law Delayed by Ministers

The Ministerial Committee on Legislation deferred action Sunday on a bill proposed by Knesset members Shai Hermesh and Carmel Shama that would prevent the media from contacting families of IDF soldiers killed during the course of duty before they are officially informed of the bad news. The committee sent the measure to the Journalism Council to prepare guidelines for action by the committee in three weeks.

The Hermesh-Shama proposal has been dubbed the Rona Ramon Law because it was drafted in response to contact made by journalists before the widow of Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon about the death of her son in an Air Force training accident before she was informed by  the military.
