A report in the London-based Arabic a-Sharq al-Awsat said that U.S. proposals submitted to the Palestinian Authority for the agenda of the proximity talks with Israel are similar to the proposals that had given them by President Bill Clinton. The report said that the proposals include a land swap for the settlement blocs with land in Israel proper, and compensation for the descendants of Arabs who fled Israel in 1948.
On Saturday, the Syrian representative to the Arab League's Peace Initiative Monitoring Committee expressed strong opposition to an Arab League resolution to support the indirect talks, saying that it contradicted arrangements made at the last Arab League meeting in Libya.
