The Jerusalem Municipality completed its preparations for the impending demolition of the Beit Yehonatan building in the capital’s Nahlat Shiloah neighborhood on Tuesday, with inspectors taking measurements at the home. The apartment building, named for Prisoner of Zion Jonathan Pollard and constructed with funds from the Ateret Cohanim organization, has been ruled to be illegal due to zoning regulations.
The building's occupants claimed that the municipality's legal adviser had exploited the fact that Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat is currently abroad in order to demolish the house without his consent. But Barkat's office stressed that the demolition was being carried out with his full knowledge and in accordance with his commitment to implement a court order.
