Atlantic Climate Change Will Influence Drought

Haifa University Professor Shlomit Paz was part of an international research team that is trying to improve forecasts of periodic changes in temperature and barometric pressure in the northern Atlantic Ocean which influence drought in the Sahara region of Africa. The study was published in the Atmospheric Science Letters of the British Royal Meteorological Research Association.

While the effect was already known, the challenge to researchers was locating the change and understanding its impact. The researchers are now checking the impact of human activity - such as the presence of cities - on forecasts.
