Ha'aretz Editor Apologizes to Peretz Family

Ori Toval, the deputy editor of Ha'aretz, on Saturday night issued an apology to the family of Eliraz Peretz, who was killed last month defending Israel in an IDF operation near Gaza. Toval wrote on his blog page that he had expressed himself in an “unworthy, radical manner that does not properly represent my views.”

Several days earlier, Toval had written on his Facebook page that he “did not want to live in the same country where Eliraz Peretz or his mother lived. My condolences to the family – a family of fascist Jihadists, that no one should say their son died for me. His mother said that 'G-d loves the Golani troops,' but I don't want G-d to love them, for me it would be like living in Iran.” In his apology, Toval writes that if he had known that the posting would have received such publicity, he would never have written it. Writing to Miriam Peretz, Eliraz's mother, Toval says that “I am truly suffering over the hurt I have caused your family.”
