Soldiers who fell in the War of Independence, before the establishment of the state, will receive honorary citizenship. A bill to that effect, initiated by MK Zevulun Orlev, passed second and third readings Wednesday in the Knesset.
"There is a moral debt of the country towards the people who gave their lives for the establishment of the state and did not receive citizenship because they fell before the state was established," said Orlev, "The law's purpose is to treasure the memory of the fallen."
The law applies to those who served between 29.11.47 and 31.12.48 in the IDF, Irgun or Lehi and was killed on duty during this period.
