MK Eldad: Police Need to be Tougher

MK Aryeh Eldad (National Union) said Tuesday night that “the shooting of a police officer on the Mount of Olives is the direct result of the laxness of police in dealing with Arab rioters in the past weeks in the Shimon Hatzaddik neighborhood and on the Temple Mount.”

MK Eldad said that rocks quickly turned into firebombs – and on Tuesday night, into bullets. “If the Police Commissioner and the Defense Minister do not order the use of massive force to stop rioting immediately, Jerusalem will quickly deteriorate into an armed intifada,” Eldad said, adding that statements such as the one Police Commissioner David Cohen made earlier Tuesday – that the rioting would not lead to an intifada – was likely to lead to one.
