The President of Brazil, Lula da Silva, was received at the Knesset in a formal ceremony, and he is addressing the plenum shortly.
Speaker of the Knesset, Reuven Rivlin, is conducting the meeting with the original gavel used by the Brazilian diplomat Oswaldo Aranha, who presided over the UN meeting at which he announced the results of the historic UN vote in November 1947, to approve the partition and end the British Mandate.
