Foreign Minister of Canada, Lawrence Cannon, levelled criticism against the Israeli government decision to extend the construction in Jerusalem's Ramat Shlomo neighborhood and called on Israel and the Palestinians to open direct talks with the assistance of the United States to promote peace.
"The government of Canada expresses regret regarding the construction plans for housing units in East Jerusalem," Cannon said, adding that Canada sees the expansion of settlements in the region as "an obstacle to the chance to promote peace."
