At a press conference in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Wednesday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad exposed the hypocrisy of America’s policy in the country. Responding to accusations from United States Defense Secretary Robert Gates that Tehran is “playing a double game” in Afghanistan by maintaining a relationship with the American-backed Afghan government while simultaneously supporting the Taliban in their militant resistance against American and NATO occupation forces, Ahmadinejad declared that it is the United States who is playing a double game in Afghanistan by fighting terrorists that it helped to create. The Iranian leader was referring to America’s role in forming, arming and training the Taliban during the Russian-Afghan Conflict of the 1980s.
