The new Knesset Lobby for Holocaust Survivors, chaired by Mks Zvulun Orlev and Ze'ev Bielski, will ask the Knesset Oversight Committee to ask all the government offices dealing with survivors for reports on how they are implementing the recommendations of the Dorner Commission, which recommends increasing the amount of stipends and level of benefits for survivors.
Orlev said that he was “ashamed” when he discovered that survivors were unable to receive the benefits they were entitled to often because of paperwork or bureaucracy. “Each day 30 Holocaust survivors pass away,” he said. “One thousand pass away each month. Who will restore their dignity to them?”
