Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has asked Bank of Israel chairman Stanley Fischer to stay on for an additional term, reports Tuesday said. The request came several days after Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz said that there were currently no other candidates for the job. Fischer's term is up on April 30 of this year.
In recent weeks Fischer said he would consider staying on only if changes were made to the Bank of Israel law. The changes are being discussed this week by the Knesset Finance Committee. Fischer has in the past said that although he enjoys his job and life in Israel, the fact that his children and grandchildren live in the United States has made seeing them on a regular basis difficult.
