In discussions headed by Brigadier General Motti Elbaz at the IDF Central Command, the IDF significantly increased its estimate of the number of PA vehicles that would daily drive on Route 443 between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

In its initial estimates the army said only a few hundred PA vehicles per day would use the road, but the assessment changed after new data was received from the Civil Administration. This number will join the 40 thousand Israeli vehicles which use the road each day.

The High Court recently forced the government to open 443 to PA traffic despite fears that the move would lead to terror attacks. Last week a PA vehicle took part in a drive by shooting attack on an Israeli vehicle on 443.
