The Israeli Standards Institute has released new guidelines for the construction of security fences, which officials believe will enable Israel to compete more effectively in the $1.2 billion worldwide business. Doron Tamir, head of the Institute, said that “security fences are an important element in the protection of sensitive installations, but until now there was no single standards – in Israel or the rest of the world – with clear criteria for construction. Now that we have released standards for such fences, we believe it will adopted by many other countries, including in Europe and the United States.”
The standards were developed jointly by the IDF, the Israel Police, the Prisons Service, the Defense Ministry, manufacturers, customers, and others. The public is also invited to comment, Tamir said.
