A memorial service will be held in Be'er Sheva for victms of a terror attack that occurred March 7, 1988, in which three people were killed. The incident, which has come to be known as “the Mother's Bus attack" (because of the large number of mothers working in the Dimona nuclear reactor on the bus), saw the three die at the hand of Arab terrorists who infiltrated Israel from Sinai and took over the bus. After the terrorists killed one person, special police forces raided the bus, eliminating the terrorists – but not before they were able to murder two more people and injure 8.
The attack was considered to be a major impetus for the elimination of Abu Jihad of Fatah-Tunis, which was behind the attack. In 1993, then-Justice Minister David Libai revealed that the terrorists had received the information that enabled them to target the bus thanks to reports in the foreign press based on information revealed by Mordechai Vanunu.
