Interior Minister Eli Yishai conferred Tuesday with the heads of local authorities in the Arab sector and promised to increase assistance to the many authorities that are having financial problems. Yishai will increase grants and subsidies, giving them cash to pay salaries and operating expenses. In return, he demanded that they cooperate with Interior Ministry officials in increasing collection of municipal taxes, which many local authorities in the Arab are lax in collecting.
