The Knesset Education Committee decided on Sunday to ask Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz and Chairman Ofir Eini of the Histadrut Labor Federation to meet sooner than the scheduled date of March 18th regarding the technicians strike at the Israel Broadcasting Authority (IBA). The workers claim they are bearing the brunt of the IBA's 100-million-shekel deficit.
The committee asked management to appear on Thursday to present its program of cuts that don't involve wages. It also accepted management's claim that it cannot pay off the entire debt in one year, and is asking the treasury to settle for a 50-million-shekel payment. The workers were asked to show how they are willing help until reforms are implemented at the authority.
