Israel presented the United Nations Human Rights Council on Monday with a seven-point plan for dealing with human-rights abuses in Iran. During a discussion of the body's review of the situation in the Islamic Republic, Ambassador Aharo Leshno Yaar said the work of the council must go beyond the review.
The recommendations call for Iran to "end incitement to hatred, including statements that show contempt for General Assembly Resolution 60/7 (2005) and 61/255 (2007), on Holocaust remembrance and Holocaust denial." Other points include an end to the Tehran government's support for terror, commuting of death sentences and ending executions, torture and other cruel behavior, including discrimination. Iran was similarly criticized by a number of Security Council members, but defended by a number of allies.
