Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat said Monday that he intends to follow the instructions of the State Prosecution and seal Beit Yehonatan (Jonathan House) in Shiloach (Silwan), south of the Old City, after evicting its Jewish residents. However, he stressed, the same approach will be taken as regards illegal Arab housing nearby. “There will be no discrimination between Jews and Arabs,” he said.
As keynote speaker for the opening session of the Jerusalem Conference on Israeli issues, the mayor said his conduct in the eastern part of the capital has received a wide consensus of support from left and right. He said the area had been neglected for many years but he intended to improve the infrastructure.
