Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz and Canadian Transport, Infrastructures and Communities Minister John Baird agreed Sunday to resume talks on an aviation agreement between the two countries. For the last 15 years, Israel and Canada have relied on understandings renewed every year to allow flights by El Al and Air Canada, following a disagreement between the two carriers.

Minister Katz said he hoped to reach the same "open skies" agreement that Israel has with the United States. He said such an agreement would increase the frequency of flights between the two countries and make more connecting flights possible. Minister Baird expressed hope that such an agreement would allow more airlines to enter the market.
