Emergency Medical Help for Amharic Speakers

Beginning Wednesday, Magen David Adom will offer callers to its emergency 101 phone number the opportunity to talk to a speaker of Amharic, and workers who arrive on the scene of an incident will have the opportunity to communicate with speakers of Amharic. Thanks to financial assistance by Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein's International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, Magen David Adom was able to train professional medical translators to communicate accurately with speakers of Amharic. As soon as an Amharic speaker calls MDA, the translation service is put into effect, and medical workers who arrive on the scene of an incident will be able to receive guidance as well.

The service will be instituted in three MDA service areas before being expanded nationally.
