Knesset Starts Process to Memorialize Rav Kook

The Knesset approved on Monday, the first reading of a bill to perpetuate the memory of Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Hacohen Kook, the first rabbi of the modern-day Land of Israel. The bill is among activities marking the 75th anniversary of his passing.

The proposal, drafted by former member of Knesset Nissan Slomiansky, is modelled after legislation to memorialize Zionist visionary Theodor Herzl. It is intended to bring youth and the general population to the values of Zionism and Judaism as part of the process of acquiring the Jewish-Israeli heritage and perpetuating the memory and heritage of Zionist giants.
