A spokeswoman for the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed on Monday that Iran has informed the United Nations nuclear watchdog about its program to increase uranium enrichment from the current 3.5 percent to 20 percent.

She said that the Islamic Republic's step reduces the chance of the Tehran government accepting a Western offer of enriching the uranium in another country.
