Member of Knesset Michael Ben-Ari introduced a bill in the Knesset on Monday to prevent the Knesset speaker from being elected president of the country. The intent of the bill is to prevent the speaker from trying to curry favor with fellow Knesset members, who elect the president.
The law was introduced after current Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin decided to add aides and spokespeople to the staffs of committee chairs and to let lawmakers travel abroad in business class.
