A Jerusalem court has sentenced a police officer to one year in prison, after he beat up a youth who was filming disturbances during protests against the 2007 "gay parade" in Jerusalem. The youth was filming police activity against Hareidi demonstrators from the roof of a building on Bar Ilan Street, where Hareidi protestors were demonstrating against the parade. Officer Gilad Mizrahi demanded that the youth hand over his camera, but the youth refused, asking the authority the officer had to make that demand. In response, the officer began beating up the youth and took the camera by force. He then dropped the youth on the floor and began kicking and punching him. The officer attempted to cover up the incident, writing in his report that he had found the camera unattended on the roof.
Besides the one year jail sentence, Mizrahi was sentenced to an additional suspended sentence of six months in prison, as well as a NIS 10,000 fine.
