The world organization of Jews from Libya has sent a letter to Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, with copies to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres asking that, during the visit of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, they bring up the subject of compensation claims for Jews who suffered during the Fascist regime in the north African country. They want to be given the same consideration Libyan leader Muamar Ghadaffi was given a year ago, when Italy gave the Libyan government five billion dollars in compensation for the Fascist period.
Organization Chairman Meir Cachlon wrote in the letter that the Jews of Libya were not taken into consideration in the compensation given to Libya and that Israel should be compensated in accordance with Libya's Jewish population during the Fascist period.
