Axel Ullrich of Germany, whose groundbreaking cancer research that has led to development of new drugs such as Receptin, for the treatment of metastic breast cancer, heads a list of seven world-famous scientists to win the 2010 Wolf Prizes, announced Monday by Education Minister Gidon Sa'ar, who also chairs the Wolf Foundation Council. The foundation was founded by Dr. Ricardo Wolf, a German-born inventor and former Cuban ambassador to Israel under the motto "to promote science and art for the benefit of mankind."
The other winners, each of whom will receive a $100,000 prize, represent Austria, England, France and the United States in the fields of Agriculture, Mathematics, Medicine, Physics and a rotating Arts category, which is Architecture this year. President Shimon Peres, will confer the prizes at a special Knesset ceremony on May 13th.
