An investigation into accusations that Israeli soldiers defaced gravestones at the Arab cemetery of Awarta near Shechem, in Samaria, on Tuesday has cast doubt on the charges. It turns out that there were no Hebrew inscriptions on gravestones in the Muslim cemetery.

According to a military statement released Thursday evening, it is possible that someone scribbled something on slabs of marble at a distance from the cemetery. An Israel Defense Forces source told Arutz Sheva's Hebrew service that members of the far-Left B'Tselem organization admitted that photos featured in the media which purported to show writing in Hebrew and Russian on Arab gravestones, were misleading.
