Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces hindered a group of more than 70 worshippers from the Jericho Core Group who wanted to enter the ancient Shalom al Yisrael (Peace on Israel) synagogue in Jericho in a coordinated visit, escorted by Israel Defense Forces units, including Border Guards. The visit was only allowed, two hours later than scheduled, after it was made clear to the PA forces that the worshippers would march to the site if their buses were not allowed to do so.
The worshippers conducted morning services. In a corner of the structure they found a bucket containing pieces of the synagogues ancient mosaic floor. They said it looked as if the tiles were collected in a hurry so that people could not see the destruction and neglect the site has suffered.
