In the town of Mafkiim, a resident who was expelled from Gush Katif threatened to kill himself. After about an hour of persuasion by the police negotiations unit the man agreed not to hurt himself.

The man fell into heavy debt following the investment of his compensation funds in a failed agricultural business. Council head Yair Farjun, and Head of the Council’s Department of Social Services, Uzi Segal, rushed to the scene of the event and sought to calm the man and his family.
