The torrential heavy rains that have caused at least one death and cut off several communities in southern Israel also have filled reservoirs and are alleviating the national water shortage. The National Mekorot Water Authority said that more than six million cubic meters of flood waters flowed into reservoirs last month.
Since the beginning of January, nearly an additional one million cubic meters has helped fill reservoirs in areas where there were no flood waters during the entire winter last year. The use of water from reservoirs and of desalinated water allows the rain to help restore the underground aquifer system
