Defense Minister Ehud Barak will pay a NIS 5,000 fine for employing an illegal worker as a maid in his home, a report in Yediot Achronot said Sunday. According to the report, investigators for the Industry, Trade and Labor Ministry questioned Barak's wife under warning, and she admitted employing the illegal Filipina worker, but said she currently had no connection with her. The worker, known as D, has gone into hiding, and all efforts by investigators to find her have led nowhere.
The report said that the worker has, through third parties, offered to testify against the Baraks in exchange for a promise that she would not be deported, but no guarantee has been offered her yet.
