The Interior Ministry’s Regional Planning Commission has approved a plan to build a small Jewish compound on Jewish owned land in the mostly Arab neighborhood of Shuafat located in northern Jerusalem, near the Jewish neighborhood of Neve Ya'akov, Israel Radio reported.
The plan allows for building on an area of about 5,000 square meters and will include three apartment buildings each five stories high where some 50 families can live. On the ground floor of each building commercial shops will be built.
Interior Ministry officials say the program is just one of 60 initiated by the Jerusalem Municipality in the Beit Hanina and Shuafat compounds to integrate them with the overall city master plan for the neighborhoods.
