The cabinet decided on Sunday to fix the 21st of the Hebrew month of Tevet as National Hebrew Day. The date is the birthdate of Eliezer Ben-Yehuda, who revived the language in the land of Israel. This year, that falls on Thursday, January 7th.

The decision calls for creation of a team that will consolidate recommendations on ways to preserve achievements of the language. It also calls for a 70-thousand-shekel prime minister's prize named after Ben-Yehuda for advancing the language. The cabinet approved the casting of a Ben-Yehuda medal and the possible minting of a postage stamp.
