Report: Egypt Brews New Israel-PA Deal

A report by Al-Jazeera Sunday said that Egypt has brewed up a new Mideast plan that would reopen talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Under the plan, Israel would continue its building freeze in Judea and Samaria beyond the ten months proclaimed by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu – but "quietly," without turning it into an official policy. In addition, Israel would release terrorists considered leaders in the PA. No specific names were mentioned, however many in Israel took that clause to be referring to Fatah terrorist Marwan Barghouti, serving five life terms for his role in the murder of over 30 Jews.

According to the report, the U.S. administration supports the new Egyptian plan. PA chief Mahmoud Abbas is set to meet on Monday with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
