An El Al plane en route to New York Tuesday had to change course near Belgrade, because it was on a collision course with an Air France plane. The Air France plane was getting "dangerously close" to the El Al plane, sources said, and at one point the two planes were just 300 meters apart.

Officials attributed the incident to an error by control tower personnel in Belgrade. El Al confirmed the report in a statement Tuesday night.
