A group calling itself the Shechem Nucleus (Gar'in Shechem) has scheduled a "Return to Shechem" assembly Saturday evening next to the Horon military camp at the southern entrance to the what has been described as "the first Jewish city". The group says there is no reason not to return, in the wake of the recent removal of security checkpoints around the city.
A special single recently produced by singer Ariel Silber calls for Jews to return to the Samarian community of Shechem and renew the Jewish presence at the Tomb of Joseph. The gravesite was turned into a mosque, then abandoned under Palestinian Authority after it was overrun during the 2000 intifada, although Jews sometimes go to pray there, with and without coordination of the visits with the Israel Defense Forces.
People wanting information on buses to the assembly on Saturday night are invited to call
